Katie Lanier & Dena Leggett - This is Katie’s second year of flipping on grade level physics. She has taught various levels of physics for nine years. She also taught two years of elementary math and science. Dena was the pioneer “flipper” at Allen, casting vision during professional development in 2011. This is the third year of flipping for Dena. She has been teaching PreAP, AP, and IB Chemistry at Allen High School for 12 years. Dena began her teaching career over 25 years ago as a college professor. She often teaches at the junior college and is looking forward to using the flipped approach in those classes. She and Dena have both led flipped classroom presentations for district professional development sessions and co-presented at an area conference for administrators. Katie co-presented a session called “Ready, Set, Flip” at the Conference for Associated Science Teachers (CAST) this fall. Dena presented a session called “Creating an Engaging Student-Centered Flipped Classroom” at the same conference. Katie currently serves as our campus mentor to support other teachers using the flipped model. Both Katie and Dena have opened their classrooms during the national flipped open houses and welcome opportunities to help others in their journey.
