Dena was the pioneer “flipper” at Allen, casting vision for the school during professional development in 2011. This is the third year of flipping for Dena. She has been teaching PreAP, AP, and IB Chemistry at Allen High School for 12 years. Dena began her teaching career over 25 years ago as a college professor. She often teaches at the junior college and is looking forward to using the flipped approach in those classes. Dena has led flipped classroom presentations for district professional development sessions and co-presented at an area conference for administrators. Dena presented a session called “Creating an Engaging Student-Centered Flipped Classroom” at Conference for Associated Science Teachers (CAST) this fall. Dena has opened her classroom during the national flipped open houses and welcome opportunities to help others in their journey. Dena is also a co-author for OnBoard AP Chemistry, an online AP chemistry preparation program published by McGraw Hill.
