The biggest obstacle to developing and managing a mastery-based classroom is the management of data. Moodle, a learning management system, has a variety of tools that can effectively facilitate the administration, distribution, and management of a mastery learning model. The presentation will focus on sharing the successes and failures of Moodle in implementing mastery learning in a high school chemistry course. Additionally, resources will be shared as to the benefit of developing a mastery learning module for students and how it has philosophically changed the purpose of teaching my high school chemistry courses.

One of the criticisms of learning via video is the passive position of the student-receiver. There are opportunities to invite viewers to interact with video! In this session, the audience will be introduced to YouTube interactive markers – built-in features that allow a teacher to pause instruction and/or ask students to make intentional choices as they progress through material.

Norton Gusky, formerly the Coordinator of Educational Technology for the Fox Chapel Area School District, will share how K-12 educators are using Classroom Salon, a product developed at Carnegie Mellon University, as part of a Flipped Learning set of experiences. Norton will highlight case studies from both middle and high school classrooms that use Classroom Salon to annotate video. While YouTube has the ability to time-stamp a video, Classroom Salon adds additional tools for analyzing the student conversation and enhancing the classroom conversation. Classroom Salon works as both a stand-alone tool or as tool within learning management systems, like Edmodo or Blackboard.

​In this session we will discuss how our classrooms are setup to increase student participation, build in formative assessment and streamline the entire process to make the daily work of flipping more manageable for teachers, and students. Our classes are setup with a Google site where we have calendars, videos with google forms and links to pertinent websites. Our videos are built using SMART Notebook files then exported to Doceri where we have the ability to create an animation for our videos, the voiceovers and export straight to our YouTube channels all from our iPad. Students are required to complete a google form for each video as a formative assessment. Our google forms are setup to work for every video complete with the ability to directy email students answers to questions and sort the spreadheets according to class period

In this interactive presentation, we’ll share a variety of technology tools that we use in flipclass to engage students. We’ll give project and product examples that participants can use in their flipclasses. We’ll encourage participants to take what we show and use it to expand what they already do, or to create something new. Based on participant feedback via polling technology, topics may include content curation (e.g. symbaloo),expanding the reach of the classroom (e.g .todaysmeet), or student / teacher publishing (e.g. yudu). At the end of the presentation, we’ll share our popular Techsplosion! of useful tech tools that defy categorization. Participants are encouraged to use their web-enabled devices during this session to explore the tools and share ideas in the backchannel.

With the increased availability of iPads, flipping your classroom is becoming more manageable and accessible for teachers. But once you have an iPad, how do you start? What are the best apps to use, and what challenges might you face? Two veteran teachers will discuss some of the apps used during their first year in a fully flipped course. Doceri and ExplainEverything will be demonstrated with other apps mentioned, as well. Pros & cons of these apps will be discussed while fielding participant questions. Attendees will have the chance to create their own content on their personal iPads. It is suggested that you bring a laptop and an iPad pre-loaded with the aforementioned apps in addition to an Evernote or Dropbox app that already contains potential presentation materials (pdf files, powerpoints, etc.) for the purposes of importing in your practice presentations.

As teachers become skilled at creating flipped content, they face the challenges of storing, organizing and presenting their content in ways that will streamline learning. Edmodo and Google Drive are two tools that work well in tandem to help teachers manage their flipped content. In this session, participants will:

*Learn how to upload a series of videos to a Google Drive that students will view sequentially
*Watch a video from Mr.Kain’s Google Drive account that is embedded in an Edmodo assignment
*Follow instructions in the video to embed content into their own Edmodo posts
*Take a quiz in Edmodo
*Make an Edmodo post public
