51-I Want to Flip... Now What?
This presentation will discuss things that need to be considered before moving forward with a flipped classroom. Moving to a flipped classroom is going to be a new experience for your students, and whenever people encounter something new and different, there might be pushback. Here we will talk about some potential issues that you may face when you decide to flip your classroom. Moving to a flipped classroom will also require you to rethink your learning space. You no longer will need to use the traditional row model to set up your class… what else can you change? How are you going to set up your flipped class? Is it still going to be teacher centered or are you doing this to move to a more student centered approach? Where do you want your flipped class to go? The flip is only the first step.

56-Offering Students Choice in a Flipped Classroom

In this workshop, teachers will connect the concept of multiple intelligences to offering students choice in learning in the classroom. When students are given flipped lessons for homework, time is made available for students to work on projects of their choice in order to master content, concepts, and skills according to the teacher’s design and plan. Teachers will learn ways to create lessons for homework; to post lessons on a website and to assign it for homework, making time available to fully engage students in their classrooms using project based learning. Teachers will design a choice board for students in which learning activities are connected to multiple learning styles.

81-First Time Flipping - How I Flipped and Results I Observed, P.S. I'll never go back!
In early October, 2012, I flipped my Dual Credit College Algebra classrooms. After flipping, I observed higher engagement of my students and at the end of the semester a 3.5% jump in the class averages of my students compared to last year.

In this session I will discuss what I did to make this shift successful. Key items discussed are:
• Making your mind over to flip your classroom – letting go
• Administration support – Failure is an option
• Use of Blackboard to support the flipped classroom
• Subject portfolios – Keeping students on task
• Lecture videos, Powerpoints and the textbook – Which to use?
• WeBWork –how I use this mathematics homework system
• Flipped classroom and the support of CCSS
• Results of an observational statistical study of the jump in achievement from last year

89-Flipping an Introductory Computer Science Course - YES YOU CAN!
This presentation describes how the flipped approach was implemented in an introductory Computer Science undergraduate course in algorithmic thinking at a four-year college. It examines content that is appropriate for learning at the student’s individual pace outside the classroom. It focuses on suggestions for active learning exercises at (Bloom's) higher levels of learning in the classroom. This approach showed that the instructor’s different role, as a guide rather than a lecturer, allowed students to learn actively, built confidence, and especially provided one-on-one support and motivation for weaker students, who learnt from their peers as well as from the teacher. These advantages can help address problems with retention of students in the introductory programming courses in the CS major. Student reaction to this new classroom paradigm was overwhelmingly positive.

99-Flipping Your Class: Difference Maker or Just Different?

Bob Jones Academy conducted a pilot study this past school year in 8th grade Pre-Algebra class and in 9th grade World History and 9th grade Geography classes. The students were taught traditionally first semester and then “flipped” second semester. The Pre-Algebra class study had two control groups and two test groups to test the effects of the flipped model as well as students having provided devices (iPads). For the World History and Geography classes, the performance of previous classes formed the control data and this year’s students formed the test group. The effects on the students of the flipped model as well as a BYOD environment were evaluated. Standardized test as well as other achievement data along with quantitative and qualitative attitudinal data was collected from all the classes and will be presented along with the insights of the teachers involved.

84-Implementing a Flipped-Mastery Learning Environment: Plan, Do, Study, Act

Despite engaging in extensive professional development prior to implementation of the flipped-mastery instructional model in my Chemistry – I classes, my journey was filled with mistakes and frustrations. In this presentation, I will first describe the steps I took prior to full implementation of the flipped-mastery learning model in my Chemistry - I classes. Second, I will describe the problems I experienced along the way that pointed to changes that still needed to be made for the flipped-mastery learning model to be successful with all of my first year chemistry students. Third, I will describe what I plan to do differently as I continue using the flipped-mastery learning model with my Chemistry – I classes next year. Finally, I will share success stories from students that learned how to take ownership for their learning in my version of a flipped-mastery learning environment.
